ATTENTION!

The whole curriculum is in Polish. After admission the non-Polish speakers study the language for one year at the University Language Centre and continue the programme in the following academic year. Foreign candidates, who can speak Polish at B2 level at least, and non-Polish speakers, who hold Polish citizenship, take the exam with Polish candidates.

Application Deadline

June 7 - deadline for sending the documents (FORMAL STAGE)

June 14 - candidates receive the Teams account data to upload portfolioes, the tasks to prepare and a link to the film they are going to analyse during the exam

June 23 - deadline for sending portfolioes and tasks (PORTFOLIO & TASK STAGE)

June 26 - evaluation of the works sent

June 27-28 - the ENTRANCE EXAM FOR FOREIGNERS (who do not speak Polish well and are applying for the 2024-25 academic year.)

The exam will be held on-line via Teams.




Required documents

  1. Application form 
  2. High school graduation diploma, which must be legalized by the Polish Consul in applicant’s country of residence, or if your country is on the Hague Convention list http://www.hcch.net Apostille legalizing the diploma should be provided by a competent authority mentioned on the list marked by [12]. In either case the diploma and its legalization/apostille should be translated into Polish by a sworn translator.
  3. Certificate stating that the high school graduation diploma allows its holder to apply to all types of higher education institutions (including universities and academies) in the country where the diploma was issued in case the diploma does not state this). The certificate can be obtained from: education authorities in the country of the diploma issue for the countries on the Hague Convention list; from the Polish Consul in the case of all other countries but Hague Convention; or alternately from a diplomatic post on the territory of Poland of the country in which the diploma was issued.
  4. Documents providing information regarding the course of secondary education leading to high school graduation diploma such as list of subjects, number of tuition hours, grades obtained a degree in higher education if available
  5. Curriculum vitae/resume
  6. Passport main page photocopy
  7. One current photo (passport size and format)
  8. Proof of payment for the entrance exam

All the documents should be sent in pdf format to j.wesolek@filmschool.lodz.pl. Once received, the confirmation will be sent.

All the documents sent will be verified and if complete the candidate will receive a link for uploading the portfolio.Then the contents of each portfolio will be assessed and the artistic work viewed. Those applicants, whose portfolios get accepted, will be invited to take part in the entrance exam on-line.
Microsot Teams will be a platform for uploading your portfolio, all the tasks you will be asked to prepare and finally this will be the medium of the interview in July.

Artistic work portfolio

The candidates accepted in the formal stage will be assigned an account and sent a link to upload their portfolio and tasks assigned by the Exam Commission.

A) Each candidate has to enclose samples of their artistic work in the form of an ARTISTIC WORK PORTFOLIO, which must content:

  1. Up to 20 samples of applicant's fine art work
  2. Video self-presentation (circa 2 minutes/ 100MB, MP4, Mov (H264)), where the candidates talk about themselves. It can be shot in one take or edited, but we don't allow work of others to be included. The sound and image have to synchronised.
B) Aside from the portfolio each candidate must complete the TASKS given by the Exam Commission:
  1. task challenging the film-producing potential of your creative imagination
  2. task checking your sensitivity and drawing/ painting skills

Applications without confirmed payment will be automatically turned down. After submission of documents (complete or not) the examination fee is non-refundable.

Exam

Acceptance into the Animation programme will depend on the success of the candidate’s performance in the exam, which tests: their artistic talents, career predispositions, as well as the quality of the candidate’s presented portfolio.
1. Evaluation of student's own work 
2. Two artistic tasks (drawing a storyboard, plus other drawings)
3. Analysis of an animated film
4. An interview with the candidate

NOTICE. The whole curriculum is in Polish, we do not have any English courses for the time being. You take the exam in English and if you pass you start a year of learning Polish. Again, if you pass the language exam and obtain B1, you can continue the studies. If the lecturers know other languages, they may use them, but it's not their obligation to communicate with students in a foreign language.

Accommodation

For the duration of the entrance exam (if it's held on the School premises) all the foreign students taking the exam get free accommodated at the student dormitory situated in 189/191, Piotrkowska St.

How to get to the dormitory?

From Łódź Kaliska train station get trams: 8,10,14 and get off in Piłsudskiego St by Piotrkowska St

From Łódź Widzew train station take 98B bus and get off at Mickiewicza/ Piotrkowska stop

From Łódź Lublinek airport take 55 bus and get off in Radwańska St by Piotrkowska 

When you pass the entrance exam and become a student, you will shortly need to apply for the Polish residency permit.

Getting to school

Leon Schiller National Higher School of Film, Television and Theatre is situated at 61/63 Targowa St.in Lodz. You can get there from:

Łódź Chojny Railway Station
Tram Z1 – from the station Łódź Chojny get off at Kilinskiego/Fabryczna stop.

Łódź Kaliska Railway Station
Bus Z10 – from the station Łódź Kaliska get off at Piłsudskiego/Targowa stop.

Łódź Widzew Railway Station
Take 98B bus and get off at Piłsudskiego/Targowa stop.

PKS Polnocny Coach Station
Take Z5 bus from PKS Północny Coach Station in Źródłowa St. and get off at Piłsudskiego/Kilińskiego stop.

Lodz Lublinek Airport
From  Łódź Lublinek airport it is possible to reach the school on 55 bus getting off in Tymienieckiego (corner with Kilinskiego St) or by taxi, which takes about 30 minutes and costs roughly 45 PLN.

FOREIGN STUDENTS FROM NON-EUROPEAN UNION COUNTRIES

PLEASE REMEMBER TO START THE PROCESS OF ACQUIRING THE RESIDENCY PERMIT WITHIN THE VALIDITY PERIOD OF YOUR VISA.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:

1. 2 copies of the residency permit application (to be obtained from the Passport Office)
2. 4 passport photos (size: 4,5x3,5cm, colour, left profile and ear exposed)
3. Passport ( the original plus a copy of the page with the photo and a copy of the page with the visa)
4. Certificate of being a student at the Film School also confirming the tuition fee payment
5. Health Insurance Certificate (insurance to be purchased from NFZ (National Health Fund)
6. Bank account with sufficient funds for living expenses and the stay in Poland (635 PLN per month for a period of 15 months), plus funds for the return ticket to the home country:200 PLN (for any neighbouring country), 500 PLN (any European country), 2,500 PLN (all non- European countries)

Initially, a decision concerning the residency permit will be issued  (the decision charge – 340 PLN). Then, within a month, the residency card will be issued – charge 25 PLN
