On 22 September, at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Klara Kochańska will receive a Student Academy Award. The question is, which one: Gold, Silver or Bronze?

Out of 7 finalists three films from the Foreign Narrative Category were selected to be the winners of Student Academy Awards and among them there is Klara Kochanska’s film Tenants produced by Lodz Film School. However, we have to wait until 22 September to find out which Academy Award will be granted to the film: Gold, Silver or Bronze.

The film "Tenants" made under artistic supervision of our professors Robert Gliński, Wojciech Marczewski and Jerzy Zieliński was shot by Zuzanna Kernbach. It is competing for Gold in Foreign Narrative Section with two films from German schools: “Invention of Trust” by Alex Schaad from University of Television and Film in Munich and “Where the Woods End” by Felix Ahrens from KONRAD WOLF Film University in Babelsberg.

The Academy established the Student Academy Awards in 1972. Each year, the Academy grants awards in four categories: animated film, documentary, fiction film and alternative film. Despite the same categories American students enter separate competition from foreign ones. Past Student Academy Award winners have gone on to receive 46 Oscar nominations and have won or shared eight awards. They include, among others, Robert Zemeckis and Spike Lee. Although a couple of student films from Lodz Film School have been nominated to the Student Academy Award, Klara Kochańska’s film is its first winner.

The Student Academy Award, however, is not the first prize granted to the film. During the 31st Warsaw Film Festival the film was pronounced the Best Short Film and received the Short Grand Prix. The film "Tenants" was also awarded The Golden Prize for the Best Foreign Film at the Global Chinese Universities Student Film and Television Festival in Hong Kong. It was also screened at the Karlovy Vary Festival during which Klara participated in the Future Frames Program whose aim was to draw attention of film industry representatives to young talented film-makers.
