Four student films from our school were screened in Youth Cinema Competition at Gdynia Polish Film Festival receiving a Special Prize and Honorary Distinction.

This year, Youth Cinema Competition screened 14 student films from Polish film schools, four of which were made by Lodz Film School Students:
"Czarnowidzka" by Joanna Satanowska
"De Profundis" by Eugeniusz Pankov
"Tenants" by Klara Kochańska
"Niestrudzeni Wędrowcy" by Kalina Alabrudzińska

Congratulations to Klara Kochańska whose film „Tenants” was awarded the Special Prize of „Legal Culture”, and Kalina Alabrudzińska who received Honorary Distinction for the film "Niestrudzeni wędrowcy".

Information on the four participating films:

"Czarnowidzka" by Joanna Satanowska, photography: Przemysław Jękosz; artistic supervision: Mariusz Grzegorzek, Witold Sobociński & Andrzej Musiał. A clairvoyant Dorota (played by Gabriela Muskała), works at the Physics Institute. In the evenings she visits Anonymous Clarvoyant Association to try and handle her gift.. Things get complicated when Szprot, a young local petit-criminal, crosses her path.

"De profundis" by Eugeniusz Pankov, photography: Mateusz Zwoliński, artistic supervision: Mariusz Grzegorzek, Andrzej Musiał, Witold Sobociński. „De profundis clamavi ad te, Domine...” (Out of the depths I have cried to thee, O Lord... Psalm 129 (130). The film was inspired by a true story of the mother, a simple country woman, who couldn’t come to terms with the death of her two daughters. She dug the bodies out and started to treat them as if they were alive.

"Lokatorki" by Klara Kochańska, screenplay: Klara Kochańska, Kasper Bajon, photography: Zuzanna Pyda, artistic supervsion: Robert Gliński, Wojciech Marczewski, Jerzy Zieliński. A young woman Justyna (played by Julia Kijowska), despite the risk buys a flat at the bailiff auction. Soon it turns out that the keys she was given don’t fit the locks. Her dream about a place of her own turns into a nightmare.

"Niestrudzeni wędrowcy", by Kalina Alabrudzińska, photography: Bartosz Świniarski, artistic supervsion: Mariusz Grzegorzek. A forty-year-old Konstancja is old enough to be already married with a child and possibly a lover from the gym. Still unmarried though, she has a business of her own, a weakness for kebab and a circle of unbearably happy friends. What she really misses in her life is a child so eventually she decides to do something about it and visits a doctor at a sperm bank. However, the plan which seems perfect will have to be verified by life itself because unexpectedly she becomes successful in love.

Young Cinema Competition is a section presenting student fiction short films and diploma films from Polish film schools. - Presenting the films in this section allows us to see what sort of future there is for Polish cinema when these young film-makers enter the industry with their full-length films. – say the Festival organizers. The Young Cinema Competition jury grants two awards: the Best Film Award named after Lucjan Bokinec (10, 000 PLN) and the Special Award (5, 000 PLN). In total, 14 films will compete in this section.

The Festival takes place from 19 to 24 September.
