A great film director, Michael Haneke, has been invited by the Lodz Film School and will be granted the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of the school.

Welcome to an exceptional event at the Lodz Film School! A great film director, Michael Haneke, has been invited by the Lodz Film School and will be granted the degree of Doctor Honoris Causa of the school. The granting ceremony, also accompanied by the inauguration of the new academic year and school’s 65th anniversary celebration, will take place on 11th October. The next day at noon Michael Haneke will run a master class in film direction for Lodz Film School students.

- "It is a director who is the master of meaning, tranquility, distance, in some way such an European equivalent of Far East Zen philosophy representative, carefully oozing his energy. Haneke is able to present complicated things in a simple way, which is very impressive" – says Rektor Mariusz Grzegorzek. The encounter with the director of the film "Amour" will be preceded by an extensive retrospective of his films screening from 1st October at the Lodz Film School Cinema. 

Michael Haneke, this year Oscar winner for the best foreign language film, and last year Cannes Festival prize winner, will become the Lodz Film School  Doctor Honoris Causa. The degree granting procedure initiated by the Dean of the Direction Dept prof. Filip Bajon was finalized by the School Senate and issued in the form of a Senate Bill in spring this year. The great Austrian director is coming to Lodz to the Doctor Honoris Causa granting ceremony on 11 October. The ceremony will be accompanied by the new academic year inauguration and the 65th school anniversary celebrations.

Michael Haneke, Austrian director and screenwriter, three time Cannes Festival prize winner (Grand Prix for "The Piano Teacher" in 2001, Palme d’Or for the best film - "The White Ribbon" in 2009 and for "Amour" in 2012. He is also the director of "The Seventh Continent", "Funny Games" & "Hidden". His recent film – "Amour" – has been recognized a masterpiece by the film critics. Apart from the Oscar and Palme d’Or the film has won the following prizes: Golden Globe, BAFTA, Cesar and many others. The actors Emmanuelle Riva & Jean-Louis Trintignant, who for "Amour" returned to acting, also received many prizes.
