A French film director and writer, Philippe Claudel, visited our school on Wednesday, 22 April. Two of his films “I’ve Loved You so Long”, “Before the Winter Chill” were screened at the School Cinema

The most acclaimed film by Claudel is „I’ve Loved You so Long” („Il y a longtemps que je t’aime”) which had two Cesar nominations for the Best Film and the Best Actress for Kristin Scott Thomas, and it won the Best Foreign Language Film BAFTA Award. The film was screened at the school cinema on Tuesday, 21st April. The next day, on Wednesday the film „Before the Winter Chill” (starring Daniel Auteuil & Kristin Scott Thomas) was screened. The screening was followed by a meeting with the director.

Philippe Claudel, who is also a writer, has made a name for himself as the author of a Prix Renaudot winning novel „Grey Souls” which was translated into over 30 languages, and pronounced the Book of the Year in France. He has also written the novels „Monsieur Linh and His Child”, a controversial „Brodeck’s Report”, „The Investigator”, and a recent one „Parfums”. Among his literary work there are also two short story collections – „Les Petites mécaniques” and „Le monde sans les enfants : Et autres histoires”, which were very well received. Since 2012 Philippe Claudel has been a member of the prestigious Goncourt Academy.

His visit at the Lodz Film School was possible thank to the support of the Lodz branch of Alliance Francaise.
