This year the Drama Schools’ Festival takes place in Lodz from 5 to 10 May. Polish drama schools’ students will perform on the stages of Studyjny and Nowy Theatres.

The Lodz Film School invites to the 33rd Drama Schools’ Festival, which as usual will provide the audience and fellow students with thrilling experience. The students of the Polish drama schools, Warsaw Drama Academy, National Theatre School from Krakow and Wrocław and the Lodz Film School, will compete for the Festival prizes.

The Drama School Festival, which has been taking place in Lodz since 1983, is for the young actors their first opportunity to confront demanding festival audience and theatre critics, but also a chance to present themselves and initiate professional contacts. It is a meeting place for generations of theatre lovers ranging from young actors, through artists with huge professional experience and achievements, up to theatre artistic directors and film audition directors.

Among the Festival winners there are Zbigniew Zamachowski, Michał Żebrowski and Robert Więckiewicz.

The performance of the young actors will be evaluated by the Jury including: Ewa Błaszczyk (film and theatre actress), Sebastian Majewski (theatre director, artistic director of Narodowy Stary Theatre in Krakow), Jerzy Kapuściński (TVP 2 director), Piotr Dzięcioł (film producer, Opus Film chairman) and Wioletta Laszczka (Ministry of Culture and National Heritage). The jury will choose the winners of the prizes funded by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. There will also be the audience prizes awarded to the most thrilling actress and actor funded by PGE. Following the long lasting tradition there will be a special Machul Prize „Be an Eagle and Fly High Up” funded by Jan Machulski and at present by his wife, which has been awarded on annual basis since 1991 to the greatest individuality of the festival.

The Drama Schools’ Festival is financed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and the Lodz City Council. The event’s co-organizers are Studyjny Theatre in Lodz and Nowy Theatre named after Kazimierz Dejmek in Lodz. The Honorary Patronage of the event has been assumed by the President of Poland’s wife, Anna Komorowska. Festival location: Studyjny Theatre of the Lodz Film School and Nowy Theatre named after K. Dejmek in Lodz.

The programme of the 33rd Drama Schools’ Festival will be announced soon.
