It’s going to be a great festival opening. After the screening of Lodz Film School graduate Małgorzata Szumowska’s film there will be a meeting with the director and other crew members.

„Łodzią po Wiśle” Competition, which starts on 10th April, will open with a special screening of Małgorzata Szumowska’s film „Body/Ciało” awarded the Silver Bear for Best Direction at the Berlinale this year. It was a great success of our graduate, Małgorzata Szumowska, whose film competed with 18 other films, amongst them Terence Malick’s "Knight of Cups", Werner Herzog’s "Queen of the Desert", Isabel Coixet’s "Nobody Wants the Night", and Peter Greenaway’s "Eisenstein in Guanajuato". The film "Body/Ciało" starring Lodz Film School acting graduate, Janusz Gajos and Maja Ostaszewska, is based on the screenplay written by Małgorzata Szumowska and Michał Englert.

The main programme of the „Łodzią po Wiśle” Festival is the competition of Lodz Film School students’ films. This year the competition has been entered by 39 films (fiction films, documentaries, animation and cinematography students own films). The Jury will award the following prizes: the Grand Prix as well as Best Fiction Film, Best Documentary, Best Cinematography, Best Animation, plus Distinctions. In the Festival programme there is a screening of Dorota Kędzierzawska’s debut film „Diabły, diabły” followed by a meeting with the director, a screening of a documentary „Uciec na Pitcairn” followed by a discussion with the filmmakers and a discussion/presentation „How to promote a debut film?” by Stowarzyszenie Film 1,2.

The Competition has been organized in Warsaw since 2003. Since its beginning the main aim of the Festival "Łodzią po Wiśle" has been the promotion of Lodz Film School students, confrontation of their work with a wide audience and film circles through creating a forum for discussion about the future of the Polish cinema. The number of viewers has been increasing with each festival edition and the discussions following the screenings are very inspiring.
