Eagle winning film-makers: Sobociński and Komasa!

The Eagles went to: a Lodz Film School cinematography graduate, Piotr Sobociński Junior, for cinematography in the film "Bogowie", and Jan Komasa, ex-direction student, for "Powstanie Warszawskie".

The Polish Film Awards Gala took place at the Polish Theatre in Warsaw on 2 March. The film "Bogowie" by Łukasz Palkowski, nominated in 12 categories, received 7 Eagle Awards. The film "Miasto 44" by Jan Komasa, won four Awards and a documentary film "Powstanie Warszawskie" also by Jan Komasa received two Awards. Jan Komasa, a Lodz Film School ex-direction student received an individual award for directing a creative documentary "Powstanie Warszawskie". The film called "the first in the world non-fiction war drama", is edited entirely from documentary footage, the newsreel from August 1944. It depicts the Warsaw Uprising through the story of two young reporters, who witnessed the fights.

Piotr Sobociński Junior, a Lodz Film School Cinematography graduate, received the Best Cinematography Award for the film "Bogowie" by Łukasz Palkowski, this year’s absolute winner. –. Piotr Sobociński also worked as a director of photography on the following films: "Róża" by Wojciech Smarzowski, "Układ zamknięty" by Ryszard Bugajski and "Strefa nagości" by Urszula Antoniak. At present Piotr Sobociński is working on the film "Wołyń" by Wojciech Smarzowski. Piotr Sobociński is also this year’s winner of the Polish Society of Cinematographers Award.

Polish Film Awards, the Eagles, have been governed and organized by the Independent Film Foundation since 1999. Over 600 Polish Film Academy members vote for the winning film-makers and films in a two stage secret vote.
