Does it reflect, or alter colour? Cinematography students tested the SONY FS-7 camera under the supervision of prof. Ryszard Lenczewski and Wojciech Staron

The camera is being tested by cinematography students but we also welcome direction students who should be aware of technological novelties and understand the job of their colleagues, cinematographers. – says prof. Ryszard Lenczewski, the Lodz Film School Head of Cinematography Study Unit. Prof. Lenczewski supervised the testing of the new camera together with Wojciech Staron, a Lodz Film School cinematography graduate and lecturer. – By doing these technical tests we want to find out how the camera reflects colour. The camera is quite light so it’s also interesting to see how it behaves and what results it gives when operated hand-held or while shooting documentaries. – adds Staroń, director of photography of such films as Krzysztof Krauze’s „Plac Zbawiciela” and Paweł Łoziński’s „Werka”.

The students used the camera to film models who have different complexion shades and skin tones. – The aim of the test is to find out to what extent the camera reflects colour and to what extent it alters it. – said prof. Lenczewski, one of the best Polish cinematographers, and recent American Film Acedemy Award nominee (ex aequo with Łukasz Żal) for photography to Pawel Pawlikowski’s film „Ida”– I am very pleased that Wojciech Staroń joined our teaching staff and that we have been running a cinematography class together this academic year. I highly evaluate his work. We share similar aesthetics and I get a feeling that we have a similar perception of people, which is very important. – says Ryszard Lenczewski. Two other great cinematographers and school lecturers, Krzysztof Ptak and Jerzy Rudziński, participated in the camera test, too.
