The play’s premiere took place on 4 October, 2014. Already starting from the pre-premiere performances the play has attracted many theatre goers to thoroughly fill the audience. The play has also been highly evaluated by the critics. „It is one of the best, the most striking performances of the last seasons. Grzegorz Wiśniewski’s theatre is not born out of a cluster of emotions, momentary „revelations”, or director’s dubious associations, but it derives from bare intelect” – wrote Łukasz Kaczyński in the „Dziennik Łódzki” after the play’s premiere. The fourth year acting students performing on the big stage of the Studyjny Theatre are: Alicja Juszkiewicz, Maciej Miszczak, Paulina Nadel, Anita Tomczak, Kaja Walden and Barbara Wypych.

The director of the play, Grzegorz Wiśniewski who is working at the Wybrzeże Theatre in Gdańsk on a regular basis also directed plays staged in theatres such as the Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw, Współczesny Theatre in Wrocław and Krakow’s Juliusz Słowacki Theatre. The play "Monster-Twilight" (also based on M. von Mayenburg) which was staged at Lodz’s Jaracza Theatre and performed by students of acting was also directed by Grzegorz Wiśniewski, for which he got the Golden Mask Prize.

The author of "The Stone", Marius von Mayenburg, is one of the most prominent German playwrights of young generation. Fireface (German: Feuergesicht), written in 1997, was his breakthrough as a dramatist. Since 1999 he is dramaturg and writer-in-residence at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin. His other best plays are The Cold Child,, Haarman, The Dog, the Night and the Knife, Monster-Twilight, Psychopaths, Parasites, Eldorado.
