Krzysztof Skonieczny, spoke about the group, Głęboki OFF, the film’s producer: ‘It’s an informal group. We do not check people’s presence. It’s just a few people who want to work together.’ Krzysztof Skonieczny is also an actor who graduated from the Warsaw Film Academy appearing in for example: ‘Tatarak’ by Andrzej Wajda and ‘W ciemności’ by Agnieszka Holland and was the director of music videos such as: ‘Nomad’ sung by Katarzyna Nosowska, ‘Nie ma cwaniaka nad warszawiaka’ sung by Projekt Warszawiak and Monika Brodka’s ‘Krzyżówka dnia’.

Skonieczny made his debut film with his own funds and the financial suport of the group Głęboki OFF without sponsors or donations from film institutions. ‘This was our policy, which enabled total creative freedom during production.’ said Skonieczny. Kacper Fertacz, the film’s DOP, is also among the nominees for the Munk Prize.

During the discussion which followed the screening, the audience raised issues concerning the film such as not clearly drawn or straightforward characters, unconventional story building and an open ending . ‘I do not intend to make ‘Hardcore Disco 2’. I would like you to go back home, sit down, close your eyes and let the film continue in your minds. Your interpretation will depend on your attitude.’

The film ‘Hardcore Disco’ had its cinema premiere in April this year. It has participated in many festivals in Poland and abroad winning the following awards at the Gdynia Film Festival: Best Direction, Best Photography and Best Debut Actress (Jaśmina Polak), and at Koszalin Festival ‘Youth and Film’: Best Direction, Best Actor (Marcin Kowalczyk) and Best Actress (Agnieszka Wosińska). The next film in the Munk Competition is ‘Dziewczyna z szafy’ by Bodo Kox.
