From 16th October onwards Lodz Film School screens debut films of directors & cinematographers competing for this year Andrzej Munk Prize.

This year 14 full-length fiction debut films have entered the Munk Competition. However, for the Munk Prize in the best direction category compete 19 nominees, and the winner of the Munk Prize for cinematography will be selected out of 9 nominees. The screenings at the Lodz Film School Cinema start from 16 October.

Jolanta Dylewska - cinematographer, Lodz Film School lecturer, the Munk Prize winner for the cinematography for a film "Rozmowa z człowiekiem z szafy" by Mariusz Grzegorzek; 3. Kuba Kijowski - cinematographer, Lodz Film School graduate, the Munk Prize winner for the cinematography for a film "Sekret" by Przemysław Wojcieszek 4. Szymon Uliasz - director, the Munk Prize winner for the direction of a film "Ścinki"; 5. Aniela Gabryel – 5th year direction student at the Lodz Film School; 6. Zuzanna Pyda – 5th year cinematography student at the Lodz Film School.

The Competition screenings will take place at the Lodz Film School Cinema from 16 October - 20 November.

Andrzej Munk studied cinematography and film direction at the Lodz Film School. Since 1957, until his death in 1961 he was a Lodz Film School lecturer. He died tragically in a car crash at the age of 40 leaving behind the unfinished film, "Passenger". The Andrzej Munk Prize is one of the oldest film awards in Poland.

The first Andrzej Munk Prize Competition winner was Jerzy Skolimowski with his film, "Walkower" (1965). The following editions of the competition awarded select, young film-makers who nowadays have placed themselves among the best Polish representatives of auteur cinema. Among others, the Munk Prize was received by: Andrzej Żuławski for "Trzecia część nocy" (1971), Krzysztof Kieślowski for "Personel" (1975), Piotr Szulkin for "Golem" (1980), Mariusz Grzegorzek for "Rozmowa z człowiekiem z szafy" (1993), Łukasz Barczyk for "Patrzę na Ciebie Marysiu" (1999). The Lodz Film School is the organizer of the Competition.
