It's a psychological drama in whuch father's (Mirosław Baka) expectations of his son are juxtaposed with the son's sensitivity and possibilities (Dariusz Przybył). Maciek, the film's main protagonist, is not a boy any more, but still not a man. He wishes to live up to his father's expectations and according to the family tradition continue the butcher's business. However, being sensitive, he is unable to hurt an animal. Instead, he cherishes the memory of the mother who died by finding refuge in her favourite old and neglected orchard. "Ziemia" is a drama rich in mystic elements rooted in the tradition of Polish countryside life. [filmpolski.pl]
