The films in the Main Competition of the upcoming edition of the Cannes IFF have been announced. Among them, there is the film THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE, directed by a graduate and lecturer of the Directing Department in our School - Magnus von Horn. The producer of the film is a graduate of the Film Art Organization Department and our lecturer in our School - Mariusz Włodarski from Lava Films, the production manager is a graduate of the Film Art Organization Department - Luiza Skrzek, the DOP - a cinematography graduate Michał Dymek, the editor of the film - a graduate of our Editing Department - Agnieszka Glińska and the script supervisor - a graduate and lecturer of our Directing Department, the head of Screenwriting Department - Andrzej Mellin.

Magnus von Horn's film will compete against: MEGALOPOLIS by Francis Ford Coppola, KINDS OF KINDNESS by Yórgos Lanthimos, and THE SHROUDS by David Cronenberg, among others.

Film synopsis: Karoline, a young factory worker, tries to survive in Copenhagen just after World War I. When she becomes pregnant, loses her job and is left to her own devices, she meets Dagmar - the charismatic owner of an illegal adoption agency which helps mothers find new homes for their unwanted children. Having no alternative, Karoline takes a job with Dagmar as a wet nurse. The women establish a bond, but Karoline's world falls apart when she discovers the shocking truth about her employer. THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE by Magnus von Horn is a disturbing story based on facts about a woman searching for love and a sense of morality.

In the festival programme, there are films shot by our graduates:

The film THE SURFER, directed by Lorcan Finnegan, starring Nicolas Cage, was shot by a graduate of our Cinematography Department, Radosław Ładczuk. The film is in the MIDNIGHT SCREENINGS section. The film continues the collaboration between Ładczuk and Finnegan; the filmmakers already made together the film NOCEBO in 2022.

The ACID programme includes another film shot by our cinematography graduate, Giovanni Cimarosti - MOST PEOPLE DIE ON SUNDAYS, dir. Iair Said (produced by Argentina, Italy, Spain). This is Giovanni's feature debut as a cinematographer.
