Łódź - UNESCO City of Film invites you to the unveiling of the star of Feliks Falk at the Walk of Fame in Piotrkowska Street on September, 29 at 1.30 p.m.

Feliks Falk is one of the top Polish filmmakers. He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (1966) and the Directing Department of the Polish National Film, Television and Theatre School in Łódź (1974). Before he became a filmmaker, Feliks Falk was a painter, graphic artist and book illustrator. He also worked as a graphic editor for the monthly Magazyn Polski. His paintings could be admired at an individual exhibition at the Contemporary Art Gallery in Warsaw.

He made his debut as a director and screenwriter in 1973 with the short TV film „Nocleg”, and two years later he made a full-length cinema film „W środku lata” "At the Height of Summer", awarded at the Authors' Film Festival in San Remo (1976). He became famous for the film „Wodzirej” "Top Dog" (1978), considered a masterpiece of the cinema of moral anxiety. The film depicted current social and political issues and criticized the practices of the authorities as well as the socialist system in a veiled way.

Feliks Falk is considered an independent artist with extraordinary insight in observing human behaviour and courage in showing the dark corners of human nature. He introduces the characters in a perfect way and then consistently deepens the character study. He is the author of valued films, including: „Szansa”(Chance) (1979), „Był jazz” (And All That Jazz)(1981), „Idol” (The Idol) (1984), „Bohater roku” (Hero of the Year) (1986), „Koniec gry”(Game Is Over) (1991), „Samowolka” (A.W.O.L) (1993), „Lato miłości”(Summer of Love) (1994), „Komornik”(The Collector) (2005), „Joanna” (2010).

He has been repeatedly awarded at national and international film festivals, for instance at the International Film Festival in Berlin, he won the Ecumenical Jury Prize for his film "The Collector" for "creating an accurate and shocking portrait of contemporary political transformations in Poland and presenting them as a parable about corruption, containing a universal message and for high artistic value and protection of such values as justice, generosity and human dignity. " For the same film, he won the Golden Lions at the Polish Feature Film Festival and the Polish Film Award in the best director category. For the film „Szansa” "Chance" he received the award for the screenplay at the Polish Feature Film Festival, 3rd Prize at the International Film Festival Rotterdam '80, and the Ecumenical Jury Prize at the IFF Locarno '80.

Feliks Falk is the author of many theatre, television and radio plays as well as film screenplays adapted for the screen by other directors. He received the Golden Grape life achievement award at the Lubuskie Film Summer in Łagów in 1987 in recognition of his screenwriting work as well as his creative contribution to the development of this field.

Falk worked as a lecturer at the Film School in Łódź and was the head of its Screenplay Faculty. In the years 1991-2005 he was involved in film production on the production side and was a co-owner of the Fokus Film studio. The studio has produced a number of feature and documentary films. On the executive side, it was involved in the production of television shows. He was honoured with the Polish Filmmakers Association Award for outstanding artistic achievements (2019), and the "Platinum Lions" Special Award for lifetime achievement at the 45th Polish Feature Film Festival in Gdynia (2020). He was decorated with the Officer's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Gold Medal for Merit to Culture - Gloria Artis. He is a member of the Polish Filmmakers Association and the Polish Writers Association, as well as a member of the Polish Film Academy and the European Film Academy.

Feliks Falk's star was funded by the Polish Filmmakers Association.
