The PREMIERE of a graduation play by the Łódź Film School Acting Department students, directed by Adam Orzechowski, will take place on September 4 and 5 at our Studyjny Theatre.
MARY PAGE MARLOWE is a portrait of a woman, fascinating in its mysteriousness, and at the same time, a modern morality play, whose pages cover a time-span of nearly seventy years.
The author reveals them in a non-chronological way, referring to different periods in the life of the title character, which makes the play resemble a mechanism of memory. Gradually recalled, seemingly unrelated events, however, over time form a meaningful whole. We look at them, as does Mary Page Marlowe, who recalling them tries to understand the meaning of her own life. In the author's intention, the title character is played by several actresses, and each of them presents not only a different stage of life, but also a distance to herself from the past. As if the human identity was made up of many, not always similar personalities, but usually bearing the same name.
“Rarely does one find such well-written roles and dramatic scenes”, says the director of the show, Adam Orzechowski. "Each actress plays the title Mary Page Marlowe, and each has an additional role thanks to the drama's rich and emotional array of details and personality. Likewise, actors also play dual roles. These are such wonderful acting opportunities, but they are also big challenges for all of them. While working on the show, we explored various states. All the students are very sensitive and emotionally mature, which is why they managed to go beyond their age and life experiences while acting. It is a spectacle about a woman, but with a universal message - each of us struggles with disappointments and failures”, adds the director.
