Marek Szyryk returns to the past. He supports his memories with old photos taken by himself in his youth. He confronts these traces with contemporary photographs, provoking reflection on the eternal, universal human dreams, tendencies and aspirations, and the need to later confront them with reality. The world of children's and adolescents’ play, marked by active presence, is filled with joy from the moment lived, the need for friendship and acceptance. Unpretentious games with free imagination contrast with the crude reality of decades ago. The moments captured in the frame create a vision of the land of freedom, happiness and carefree, filled with spontaneity and courage.

The early photographs of the young Marek Szyryk, despite their unpretentiousness and optimistic overtones, sometimes slow-moving, surprise with exceptional maturity and technical correctness. The young photographer composes frames with great sensitivity, both static shots and those caught in motion, and uses various points of view. He is also able to capture the specificity and mood of the moment in a reporter’s kind of way. More than one hundred photographs presented at the exhibition demonstrate belief in the beauty of life, create a vision of a world as if detached from unhappy reality, governed by its own rules of youth, filled with the need for happiness. At the same time, the young protagonists dream about a future in which, they believe, they will one day appear as heroes of even more serious dramas.

The archival aspect is developed in a series of contemporary Polaroids acquired by the photographer thanks to an action undertaken on the Internet. Here, too, the land of childhood is detached from the surrounding, adult contexts and also takes on a symbolic dimension. The artist thus builds a bridge between the past and the present. Marek Szyryk's nostalgic journey has a deeply personal and sentimental value, but his reflections stimulate us to recall memories, make us feel sorry for lost time and unfulfilled dreams. Although they have a deeply personal dimension, they hit a sensitive universal note.
