Mieczysław Lewandowski, cinematographer and film director, outstanding professor and lecturer at the Łódź Film School, died on March 31, at the age of 84. The last farewell will take place on April 8.
MIECZYSŁAW LEWANDOWSKI
Cinematographer and director of feature and documentary films.
A graduate of the Department of Fine Arts at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (1959) and the Department of Cinematography at the Film School in Łódź (1964).
He was the cinematographer of several dozen films, incl. "Monidło", "Seksolatek" and "Niedziela Barabasza".
In the 1980s, he also took up directing, at that time, he worked mainly in West Germany.
Member of the Polish Society of Cinematographers (PSC).
From 1964, he was a lecturer at the Łódź Film School, and from the 1980s its professor. In 1982-84, Vice-Rector of the School for International Relations, in 1993-1999, Dean of the Cinematography and Television Production Department, in 2002-2008, Vice-Rector for Teaching and Students.
Initiator and creator of education in editing, long-term head of the Faculty of Film Editing (1999-2012) at the Department of Film and Television Directing at the Łódź Film School.
Honorary member of the Polish Society of Editors (PSM).
Translator and author of two textbooks on the art of cinematography published by the Publishing House of Łódź Film School: "Światło i cień w filmie" ("Light and shadow in film") (1995) and "Leksykon oświetlenia" ("Lexicon of lighting") (1997).
