The 11th CAMERA ACTION Festival has ended. Among the winners our student films: D. Howlid's BALLAST, N. Durszewicz's PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN, and M. Białoruski's HIDE AND SEEK IN A PEACEFUL VALLEY.

In the Best Student Film category, the Main Jury unanimously decided to award the First Prize to the film BALLAST directed by Daniel Howlid.

Jury statement: In this perfectly directed film, references to the work of Michael Haneke and Ruben Östlund do not drown out the explicit voice of the film’s director. The form remains a precise illustration of the plot concept, while black humour, notion of the absurd and psychological insight become the foundations of an impressive – and what is most important in a short-form – structure which is devoid of unnecessary elements.

In the Animation category, the Main Jury also decided to award a Distinction to the film PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN, dir. Natalia Durszewicz.

Jury statement: The film illustrates a poem by Wisława Szymborska in an extremely sensual way. Using a painting technique and a palette of red shades, Natalia Durszewicz invites the viewer to the world of women, full of paradoxes and non-obviousness. Thanks to its deeply moving form, both in visual and musical terms, "Portrait of a Woman" evokes a whole range of emotions, becoming a valuable complement to the lyrical original.

The Youth Jury awarded the Best Animation award to the film PORTRAIT OF A WOMAN directed by Natalia Durszewicz.

Jury statement: For the captivating transfer to the screen of Wisława Szymborska's poetry and enriching the still up-to-date text with beautiful, artistic animation and the moving voice of Milena Lisiecka, as well as for an extraordinary skill in handling colour.

The winners received annual subscriptions to VOD DAFilms and Kinoscope services.

The Main Jury decided to award the DAFilms Distribution Award to the documentary HIDE AND SEEK IN A PEACEFUL VALLEY, dir. Maciej Białoruski

Jury statement: For an intriguing observation of everyday life, presented with non-obvious shots and disturbing sounds, which gradually make up the image of the world seen from the perspective of the young characters. A strong message, built on the basis of a suggestive disharmony between the carelessness of children's games and the horrors happening in a military zone, amazes and stuns.
