Our animation lecturer, Prof. Mariusz Wilczyński’s film, will have its premiere screening in the competition section Encounters at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Mariusz Wilczyński has worked on his film for 14 years!

"Kill It and Leave This Town" is the only Polish film that will be presented at this year's Berlinale and the only animation in the Encounters competition section. It will compete for the prize with 14 other international feature and documentary films.

KILL IT AND LEAVE THIS TOWN
"Running away from despair after the loss of loved ones, the hero hides in a safe world of memories. However, in his old age, he returns to the real world escorted by characters living in his imagination."

MARIUSZ WILCZYŃSKI
Self-taught, he has been developing his own animated cinema for over 20 years. Retrospectives of his works have been held at MoMA in New York, the National Museum of Brasilia, Tokyo International Forum and the National Museum in Warsaw. His animated films have also been presented, among others at the National Gallery in London and at Berlinale. He also performs improvised live animation shows, which he co-creates with symphony orchestras from Hong Kong, Paris, Tokyo, Geneva, Lviv and Warsaw among others. In 2007, the New York Times recognized him as "one of the most important contemporary creators in the field of artistic animation." He has been working on "Kill It and Leave This Town" for the past 14 years. He is a professor and lecturer at the Animation Faculty of the Lodz Film School.
