ACID RAIN by our graduate, Tomasz Popakul, has been chosen as one of the most eligible competitors for this year’s Oscar nominations in the Best Animation Short.

Cartoon Brew, one of the most opinion-forming animation portals in the world, pointed to the short animation ACID RAIN directed by Tom Popakul as the main favourite of this year's race for the American Film Academy Awards in the category of best short animated film. Cartoon Brew’s editors conducted a survey of leading professionals related to the animated film industry, directors of animation festivals and film critics. Based on the votes cast, three films were selected: "The Physics of Sorrow" by Theodor Ushev, "Daughter" by Daria Kashcheeva and Tom Popakul’s film that took the first place in the ranking.

“ACID RAIN is a bold and ambitious film that is emblematic of the next generation. It’s a very real story, based on real experiences, with real people. It’s refreshingly honest and sincere in its depiction of a subculture both aesthetically and narratively. As a filmmaker, I’m truly inspired by this film and happy to see this is the direction animated shorts are going.”, wrote the artistic director of GLAS Animation Festival where Popakul’s film won the Grand Prix.
