In connection with the false image of the reaction of the Lodz Film School students to the planned visit of Roman Polanski, which started to appear in the media, the vast majority of students who support the director’s visit at his Alma Mater decided to speak.

The Student Council has issued a statement about this matter. A petition was also written, which within a few hours was signed by twice as many supporters as opponents of the visit.
Here is the content of the statement:

Dear Colleagues,

In connection with the doubts that have arisen concerning the meeting with Roman Polanski, as well as extremely misrepresented news reports, we would like to express our opinion on this matter. We emphasize that Roman Polański comes to Lodz at the invitation of the Cinergia Festival.

We are not a court, it is not for us to judge Roman Polanski. We are concerned, however, by media reports that the ENTIRE student community is against the planned meeting with the greatest graduate of our school. We call for prudence and, above all, mutual respect.

We respect the opinions of all of you - everyone has the right to speak. However, we do not agree to a lynching dictated by emotions and filled with hatred, which more and more often is replacing substantive and rational discourse. "Mutual respect and limited faith in the reasons presented by the media, including social media", to follow the words of the Rector, is also a priority for us.

You know perfectly well that our school has always been an open place, a space for experimentation and creative ferment. So let's not limit this space to those who would like to take part in the meeting with our school’s graduate, an experienced artist willing to have a substantive conversation.
