The artist known for his work in the field of painting, drawing, graphics and photography was a Lodz Film School lecturer in the years 1955-1976.

Ireneusz Pierzgalski was born in Lodz in 1929. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz in 1955. In the years 1955 – 1976 was a lecturer at the Lodz Film School. Since 1976 he was the head of Photography at the Graphics Department at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz.

In the 1950s, he was associated with a group of artists "Fifth Circle", later with the "New Line" Group, which functioned in Lodz since 1959. At that time, he exhibited with Andrzej Łobodziński and Krystyn Zieliński in the Lodz Photographic Society salon, as well as with them and Stanisław Fijałkowski at the Krzysztofory Gallery in Krakow in 1961.
In the first half of the 1960s, he repeatedly showed his works at the "Krzywe Koło" gallery in Warsaw. At that time, cycles of drawings and paintings inspired by Far Eastern calligraphy were created. In 1965, together with Andrzej Łobodziński, they built an object with moving elements producing sounds, called "Klantata".

In the 1970s he created photographic series and multimedia projections, including "Reading + armchairs", "Caps", "Art Hotel".

His works are in the collections of National Museums in Warsaw, Poznań, Art. Museum in Łódź as well as in private collections in Poland and abroad.

The memorial service for Prof. Ireneusz Pierzgalski will take place on March 15, 2019 (Friday) at the Parish of St. Elżbieta Węgierska and Blessed Anastazy Pankiewicz in Łódź (15 Pankiewicza Street - former Sporna) at 13.15. The funeral will take place at the Roman Catholic Cemetery "Doły" - Smutna 6, at 14:40 hours.
