Explosions, the seven great ones and "The Coals" playing to the very end! On March,14, we will get to know the Best Direction and the Best Cinematography winners of the Munk Competition.
On March 14, during the announcement of the Andrzej Munk Competition winners there will be a small earthquake, uncontrolled short circuit with explosion of fuses and no possibility to evacuate the audience. The debutants will be behind it. Twenty four nominated film-makers who decided to blow up that what they know as far as the film form is concerned in order to say what they believe in!
Without emotions being suppressed, without insincere subtleties and boring speeches, and therefore without a presenter as such! This is what the last evening of this year’s Competition will look like. The ceremony will be opened by the Rector Mariusz Grzegorzek, and the honours will be performed by the seven great ones: Bogdan Dziworski, Bronka Nowicka, Jan Komasa, Maria Ornaf, Adam Suzin, Paweł Chorzępa and Joaquín del Paso. It is them who finally decide about the winners of the Best Direction and the Best Cinematography Prizes and 10,000 PLN Prize for the debut. Though by that time the jurors will have certainly put down the revolvers. During the ceremony they will talk about the arguments and duels they had and the circumstances in which the verdict emerged eventually. They will also recall their own first film rebellions. The most important this evening will be the voice of the young generation of filmmakers whose wish is to awaken the viewer from the dream delusion, which is the conviction of one-dimensional reality. And all this in the name of their patron, Andrzej Munk, who in his work torn apart propaganda and schematicism, believing in the viewer.
Until the very end, the "orchestra" will cater for the subsequent explosions. The British portal The Quietus called their music "dreamy, ethereal pop deriving equally from electronics and elements of folk", Their music was played, among others, on American KEXP radio emphasizing that the musical and lyrical possibilities of the Polish duo are amazing. And who are they? "The Coals" debuted in 2017 with the album "Tamagotchi" referring to the popular in the 1990s toy - electronic pet. The duet treats its image ironically combining pathos, the 1990s and - it may sound risky - Polish proud backyardness. You are welcome to visit us on 14 March at 18:00hrs. Shortly after the awards are presented, the films of the laureates of the Andrzej Munk Competition in the categories of "Best Director" and "Best Cinematography" will be screened.
