One of the greatest American dramas on the stage of the Studyjny Theatre. Małgorzata Bogajewska is the director of the diploma play. Its premiere is scheduled for 23 and 24 February.

The United States in 1980s. HIV is spreading rapidly causing AIDS threat. The text of Tony Kushner's drama focuses on a group of New York homosexuals. - This is a story about a certain world ending and the start of a new one. The world is taking on new shapes as the previous one is being eaten by a plague. – says the director of the play, Małgorzata Bogajewska. One might think the States are some kind of paradise. The melting pot of cultures, personalities, people from everywhere, or maybe nowhere. – What we really lack is a sense of identity, awareness of where we come from. The United States are a human melting pot, a world which loses its roots, and consists of travelling single nomads – adds the director. Sexuality, politics, religion – the leading themes of Kushner’s drama – all evolve around the main theme of love in the times of plague.

„Angels in America” will be the graduation play of the students of the Acting Department. Cast: Izabella Dudziak, Izabela Gąska, Ksenia Tchórzko, Elżbieta Zajko, Paweł Głowaty, Mateusz Grodecki, Robert Ratuszny, Kamil Rodek, Sebastian Śmigielski.

The students are working on Kushner’s drama translated by Jacek Poniedziałek. "Angels ..." , the drama of one of the greatest American authors, has been showered with awards - it won among others, the Pulitzer Prize. - This text can be very close to them. Considering the age of the characters - it could directly refer to them, and looking in a wider perspective - it is for the students the moment of graduating from school, and thus entering a new world and cutting off from the place that gave them a sense of identity. Just like the characters they play they will have to re-declare who they are at all levels – says the director.

Małgorzata Bogajewska is an acclaimed theatre director, director of Ludowy Theatre in Krakow. The plays directed by her were staged in many Polish theatres, including Powszechny Theatre in Warsaw, Jaracza Theatre in Łódź, the Bagatela Theatre in Krakow, or the Warsaw Dramatic Theatre. "Angels in America" is another spectacle that she will direct at the Studyjny Theatre with future graduates of acting. The previous ones were: „Roberto Zucco” (2012) and „Two Poor Romanians Speaking Polish” (2013). - I see enthusiasm, diligence of these young people, it is the moment when they are willing to cross borders. – she says about her co-operation with the students.
