Paweł Pawlikowski’s "Cold War" may win 3 Oscars: for Best Direction, Best Foreign Language Film and Best Cinematography – nomination for Łukasz Żal!

This day will be noted in the history of Polish film! On 22 January, the nominations for the American Film Academy Awards - The Oscars, were announced. Four years later, after the triumph of “Ida” in the Best Foreign Language category, Paweł Pawlikowski and Łukasz Żal will return to “the epicentre of noise and world attention”.
On 24 February, at the Dolby Theatre possible 3 statuettes for “Cold War” will be at stake!

Not only was the film nominated in Best Foreign Language Film category but also in other major categories which for years seemed inaccessible for Polish films. With Paweł Pawlikowski, Spike Lee ( BlacKkKlansman), Yorgos Lanthimos (The Favourite), Alfonso Cuarón (Roma) and Adam McKay (Vice) are competing for the Best Direction Award .

We are very happy for our cinematography graduate, Łukasz Żal, and yet another (after Ida) Oscar nomination in the Best Cinematography Award. His competitors are: Matthew Libatique (A Star is Born), Robbie Ryan (The Favourite), Alfonso Cuarón (Roma) and Caleb Deschanel (Never Look Away).

In the Best Foreign language Film category, in addition to “Cold War”, the nomination received: “Kafarnaum” (by Nadine Labaki), “Shoplifters” (by Hirokazu Koreeda), “Never Look Away” (by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck) and “Roma” (by Alfonso Cuarón).

In the rich catalogue of the hitherto successes of the "Cold War" there are among others, Palme d’Or in Cannes for Best Direction for Paweł Pawlikowski and 5 European Film Academy Awards. The visual side of the film was also appreciated many times. Łukasz Żal’s cinematography was awarded with the "Silver Frog" at the "Camerimage" International Cinematographers’ Festival. He also received the prize for Technological Achievement of the Year in the field of cinematography awarded by the "London Critics Circle" and the Bronze Camera Award at the “Manaki Brothers” International Cinematographers’ Festival.

We will find out who the Oscar winners will be on the night of 24/ 25, February.
