PAULINA WALENDZIAK, PIOTR SEWERYŃSKI, WALDEMAR ZAWODZIŃSKI and KUBA KOWALSKI among the Golden Mask winners! Congratulations!
The Golden Mask for the Best Acting Debut in the 2017/2018 season went to Paulina Walendziak for the role of Iris, a charming girl from the play “The Nether” by Jennifer Haley performed on stage of Jaracza Theatre in Lodz.
The Golden Mask for the Best Actor in the 2017/2018 season was awarded to Piotr Seweryński for the role of Sasha in the play “Antigone in New York” by Janusz Głowacki, and the role of Robert Scurvy in the play “Shoemakers” by Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz performed on stage of Nowy Theatre in Lodz.
The Golden Masks for the season 2017/2018 annual prizes of Lodz theatre critics have been awarded to the directors of our acting students’ diploma plays – Waldemar Zawodziński for the play, “Operetta” and Kuba Kowalski for “Spring Awakening”.
The play “Operetta”, which was directed by Waldemar Zawodziński, had its premiere on 10 December, 2017. Waldemar Zawodziński, a lecturer in our Acting Department, excellent director and Lodz Jaracza Theatre director created an unusual performance at the Studyjny Theatre: 28 actors on stage, a 7 member music band, everything accompanied by Tomasz Kiesewetter’s music: “A spectacle full of vigour, tempo, temperament and flamboyance! Everything spinning, appears instantly and transforms even more quickly – with a bang, with a stomp and impudence”, wrote Renata Sas in her critique for the daily “Express Ilustrowany” .
“Spring Awakening” directed by Kuba Kowalski, who has been just awarded the Golden Mask for direction. The play was performed internationally for the first time in December 2017 at the International Drama Schools’ Festival in Rabat, Morocco. Our team returned from the festival with three prizes: Best Actress Award for Karolina Bruchnicka, Award for Scenography for Agata Skwarczyńska, and Award for Direction for Kuba Kowalski. The cast of the play received the Grand Prix in May 2018 at the 36th Drama Schools’ Festival in Lodz.
