A Graduate from our School - Małgorzata Szumowska - was awarded with Silver Bear - Grand Jury Prize of the 68th edition of Berlin International Film Festival. CONGRATULATIONS!

Małgorzata Szumowska won the second most important award at one of the most important international film festivals in the world - Berlinale - for her newest film "Twarz/Mug".

- Thank you for the award. This is especially important, because our film relates to present day problems that increase not only in my country, but also in whole Europe - said Małgorzata Szumowska during the gala - I am very happy. And I’m especially happy, because I am a female film director. Yeah!

In the competitive part of the Berlinale 19 films were presented, amongst them, besides Szumowska’s there were films by Wes Anderson, Gus Van Sant, Benoît Jacquot, Laura Bispuri, Thomas Stuber and Philip Groening. President of the jury is one of the leading contemporary German film directors – Tom Tykwer.

"Twarz/Mug" is a modern day fairy tale about a man, whose face was damaged in an accident. After a ground-breaking surgery he goes back to his home, but the people there don’t know what to make of him, he becomes an outsider to them. The lead in the film "Twarz/Mug" is Mateusz Kościukiewicz ("Wszystko co kocham/All That I Love", "W imię…/In the Name of…", "Matka Teresa od kotów/Mother Teresa of Cats", "Amok"). The co-author of the screenplay for the film and the director of photography is Michał Englert, graduate from the Film School’s Director of Photography Department in Łódź. The release date of the film in Polish cinemas is set for 6th of April.
