This year, three student films from the Lodz Film School will compete at the Camerimage Festival in a student film category.

Each year in the autumn film students are thrilled by a perspective of having their films screened at the Camerimage Festival in Bydgoszcz. Out of the 28 selected student films competing for the Gold Tadpole in a student film category of the 24th International Festival of Cinematographery Art there are three films from the Lodz Film School. They are:

direction: Klara Kochańska, photography: Zuzanna Kernbach, artistic supervision: Robert Gliński, Wojciech Marczewski, Jerzy Zieliński

Justyna, a young woman and the main protagonist of the film, buys a flat at a bailiff auction regardless of the risk it may bring. When she wants to move in, it turns out that the keys she was given do not fit the locks. A dream about a place of her own turns into a nightmare.

"ALDA”

When Alda’s husband dies on a long-distance fishing sloop she falls deep into mourning. An empty coffin is buried while Bogi is resting at the bottom of the sea. Her love for the sea becomes more apprehensive, though her desire to leave the country grows stronger. Alda is a short film inspired by the paintings of Sámal Joensen-Mikines.

"THETA”
direction and photography: Magdalena Bojdo, artistic supervision: Krzysztof Ptak, Tomasz Michałowski, Józef Romasz

First held in 1997, Student Film Competition supports the development of novice filmmakers and provides a unique opportunity to confront cinematic achievements of students from various parts of the world. Each year, a growing number of film schools submit their best shorts for consideration of the Camerimage selection committee. The winners are chosen by an international jury of prominent filmmakers and industry professionals. The author of the best cinematography wins the coveted Laszlo Kovacs Student Award - The Golden Tadpole. Silver and Bronze Tadpoles are awarded for the second and third place respectively. Additionally, Polish Filmmakers Association will award the winner of the Student Film Competition a cheque for 10, 000 PLN.

In the Polish Film Competition there are films made by our school’s graduates: "Ederly" by Piotr Dumała, photography: Adam Sikora, and "Las, 4 rano" – direction and photography: Jan Jakub Kolski.

The Camerimage Festival is held in Bydgoszcz from 12 to 19 November, 2016.
